i think it's good for a politician to change his mind every now and then, it shows that he is paying attention
as long as its not for personal gain
or special interest groups
stuff like that
lobbyists will have a field day with me
especially when i don't accept donations from corporate america for my campaign
what good is being a politician if you are not on the take
who knows
no ones ever tried
personal gain
or ever succeeded in that
personal gain is for hookers and actresses
if we do not succeed as a community
you have to play the game to get there
then what's the point of personally succeeding?

i know she meets resistance from a lot of people
and i was thinking about that today
i kind of realized something...

when you try and help people out, for the good of the 'group'
and it hurts those who are in it for personal glory or gain
they become very resistant to your ideas
you get resistance from those peeps
even though they are not to help you

guys in my platoon
when i try and do something that sacrifices my time and theres, to better our platoon as a hole
its all in the agenda

yea, people have agendas but often times they dont even know what that agendas are

i wish it was like when i was 17 or 18
i knew the right and wrong
everything was black and white
it is prob the drugs
now i just see everything in shades of gray
well, it's been a lot of different things, the LT has kind of inspired me
made me think
that is part of growing up things are grey there is no black or white
i mean, i just think, there are so many different morals for every group of people, every family
acceptable among one family for ideals or religion
is not acceptable for another
yea welcome to being an adult
so when that comes into it, i mean you have clashes obviously
so we say that you have to be tolerant of one another
human nature
but that's inconvenient
because it's work
so people, like americans all came to this country to escape the persecution, the clashes for their ideals
every society does it, they group together with those who think a like because it creates peace
more than tolerant you must live in that persons soul and try to understand there motivation
right
like bob, our terp
got in an argument with one of our guys because...
our guy threw his food on the ground as a joke
it was supposed to be a joke, but
bob freaked out!
because in his country
that means that he is worthless
and that you are going to kill him
something went from one extreme to another
it might have been socially acceptable in America
motivation
but not so in iraqi culture
you're not going to appease everybody
not everyone is going to be happy with any decision
how r u supposed to know
because decisions are closer to black and white than anything else
no they t not
you can't cover all the shades with a yes or no
every decision will benefit one persons ideals more than anothers
so what can you do
you have to collect all the information, understand it all
and delegate any decision through processes that eliminate the minority so that the majority can benefit
but the minority will cry foul and make a stink ie NAACP
and the problem with that is, that the majority, stays silent
ie healthcare
the minorities have louder voices
so you try and appease the screaming child
even though the rest of the kids are sitting silently waiting to be fed
so what do you do
don't lose your sense of humor, first, no matter how sick or deranged
then...
it is easy to identify not so easy to make work
right
but it's easy for people who care and are involved

you grew up during the viet nam era
did everyone care about what was going on then?
but to many people are just trying to survive day to day
cared but what to do
you all were involved
only the people with time on ther hands could be involved
the country was together, even if it was against one another

the country was all together bonded by a common sacrifice
even if they opposed or supported the war
wwii they were involved
same thing
the draft, and rationing involved everyone
vietnam was political involvement
there was that in wwii, just not very advertised
there was no sacrifice during vietnam
gas?
not because of the war
middle east tried to teach us a lesson nothing to do with the war
the govt tried to limit price gouging by the saudis, they in turn cut production
aw
well regardless, there were more people affected by the viet nam war, than people are of this war
more people involved... even if it was by government sanction
there were more deaths so more people had people we knew who were dying
more people serving
and the draft made it so anyone may be in the service
right, which outraged more people
motivating them enough to get involved
we were more aware because the news kept it a story
thats true too
media has it's place, even if it's mostly propaganda
positive or negative
but you didn't have 24 hour news networks either
no becaus there had been a draft since korea to man the military so it was expected
even if there is 24 hr newsservice you dont get 24 hours of news coverage
yea, but what would your guys news consist of then?

1 hour of local and 1 hour of national
well on the 24 hour news networks, they probably cover a total of 20 minutes on the war a day
but not at the peak hours necessarily
if they commited 20 minutes to it during the 70's then that would be a lot of coverage
which is really not much more than you get now because they regurgitate the same stories over and over each time not getting thaty in depth
yea
they don't go to in depth on the ones i've seen in the chow hall either
this is the longest conflict we've been in as a nation
what is the story to be told is it the news or is it the people watching it
i think it's a mixture of both
but probably more towards those who watch
we do have a lot of part time patriots in our country
my battery is almost dead on my lap top and i am to lazy to get up and plug it in
its ok
